Year 5 Pupils from Werrington and Weston Coyney

Over the last few weeks pupils from various feeder schools have been visiting the Music Department at Moorside. On the 1st and 8th of  May we were visited by Werrington Y5’s and on the 15th May by Y5 pupils from Weston Coyney Juniors. They have all experienced a taste of what music is like at Moorside High school.

The pupils learnt to sing ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and explored how to play it using keyboards and Cubase software. They also produced their own short Dance Track using musical ICT software. Pupils particularly enjoyed performing their dance tracks at the end of the session which were all copied for listening to back at their school.

The department is looking forwards to the visits of Park Hall and Kingsland Y5’s over the next few weeks

Moorside High School’s Class Band Parent Concert

Parents of pupils participating in the school’s Class Band project were invited into school to listen to the Band’s progress at an informal ‘Parent Concert’ on the morning of 27th February.

Those parents who attended were treated to refreshments kindly provided by Mrs McIntyre and the DT department before enjoying a half hour performance of the Class Band’s music.

The concert took place in the music room and all parents enjoyed hearing the Class Band perform a variety of pieces, from warm up routines through old favourites such as the seasonally appropriate ‘Hot Cross Buns’ to the finale piece ‘Hard Rock Blues’.

The Class band performed all pieces with great enthusiasm, concentration and professionalism and were a credit to themselves and the school.

Moorside High School Class Band – International Recognition

On Thursday 19th January, Moorside High School Class Band went international when they played host to two visitors from Germany.
Wolfgang Feuerborn, a music teacher at the Gymnasium Nepomcenum secondary school in Reitberg near Dortmund and Michael Tankus from Yamaha Music Europe came to listen to the Class Band to hear how they were progressing. They were accompanied by Bill C Martin from Yamaha UK who visited the band before Christmas and was impressed with the progress that they had made since then.
Having been interviewed for the Sentinel newspaper and posed for photographs over lunchtime the band then got down to perform for their guests. They performed a variety of pieces and were then conducted for some of the session by Wolfgang. He was responsible for setting up a similar project in Germany over 20 years ago called Blaserklasse which has spread throughout Europe. It has proved very popular and there are now over 1500 similar projects across mainland Europe. Along with getting the band up on their feet and moving around he also taught them a new note and the piece ‘Hard Rock Blues’.
It was a busy afternoon for all involved but also most enjoyable and our guests left with smiles on their faces having enjoyed their visit to hear the Moorside Class Band.
